Tomochin’s Letter to Acchan

During Acchan’s last birthday show in AKB theatre, it came as a surprise to me that Tomochin’s letter to her was read. That was Acchan’s final birthday show as an AKB member and I think the fact that tomo’s letter was chosen was really significant. It’s a letter full of love. Again, retranslated from the Chinese forums:

To Atsuko,

Happy 21st Birthday! So sorry for not being able to make it to the theatre for Acchan’s last birthday celebration together. Actually, I really wanted to push the cake out for Atsuko, but I had a bad feeling about it so let’s forget about it (laughs).

Enough with the jokes, the first time I had a conversation with Atsuko was 4 days after auditions. We took the same transport after dance practice ended, and Acchan who seemed very shy approached me and asked ‘How should I address you?’, I remember this till now. Soon, we started performing in the theatre. We were junior high students then when we encountered many painful experiences; crying together on the way home, eating sushi that staff-san bought and telling each other ‘Let’s work hard for tomorrow too’. Memories with Atsuko are uncountable.

After this, 7 years have passed, and we have all became adults. Tomo turned 21 last week too. It was unimaginable when we were 14 that we can still be celebrating our birthdays together at 21.To Tomo, the Atsuko that is basically around everyday is an irreplaceable presence. When I first heard that Atsuko is going to graduate, compared to sadness, Tomo had a stronger emotion that is hoping that you will work hard and move forward positively. This has not changed till now.

But recently, Atsuko was not present in some shootings. The reality that Acchan is going further and further away from AKB hit me, and to be honest, I felt very lonely. And so, there is a me that is not getting used to an AKB without Atsuko. I feel that if it’s Atsuko, your dreams can definitely be fulfilled. Regardless of anything, Tomo is always Atsuko’s nakama (comrade/companion/partner). If anything upsetting ever happens again, please discuss with me, whenever & whatever it is. And then, let’s gather those that turned 21 and have a celebration together! Today, I really congratulate you!

P.S The letter which Atsuko wrote for Tomo’s birthday last year is still treasured and well-kept yo.

AKB48 X Detective Conan

Not too sure how many people are aware with this, but recently AKB48 is collaborating with popular japanese manga Detective Conan in a CM by Glico. By the way, Glico’s 2011 campaign was the immensely successful campaign of ‘Ice no Mi’ that involved a virtual AKB new member Eguchi Aimi. There will be a total of 5 parts to this murder mystery in the TV CM and the original mangaka of Detective Conan will even be drawing a 9 chapter manga version of this mystery case which has already debut in Weekly Shonen Sunday.

Birthday letter for Tomochin

After missing in action for a long long time, i am finally back after changing a job and finding much more free time to myself. In case any of you were wondering, I have never left the fandom, just that I had much less personal time dedicated to translation and things and ended up simply just following tomochin’s news on Chinese & Japanese forums.

So, I am back with a new translation and a timely one for Tomochin’s birthday (which is today, in case you do not know *raises eyebrow*). Tomochin had her birthday show in the AKB theatre yesterday and this year, her grandmother wrote a birthday letter for her. So here it is, original credits to Tomochin’s Chinese Fanclub:

Tomo, Happy 21st Birthday. It’s grandma yo.

I am really happy for you that you can welcome this day healthily in the midst of your busy days. Tomo started viewing SPEED as idols since young; always pasting SPEED’s posters in the house, singing and dancing with sister Naru-chan. Since growing up, you have always passionately talked about your dreams of becoming like SPEED with me.

I have always regarded that as a beautiful wish, but Tomo actually made it in reality. Now, I can see Tomo on TV and magazines and I am proud of you. Grandpa and me look forward to seeing you every day ne. We have gotten a lot of energy in life from this.

You must have gone through a lot of heartaches, painful, sorrowful and regretful experiences to make it till now. Yet you did not give up and striven, you’ve put in a lot of effort, and I think it is remarkable. At the same time, I am also very grateful towards your companions who have gone through thick and thin with you, the teachers who have nurtured Tomo to who she is now, manager and staff. Also, to all the fans who have always supported Tomo, I really thank you.

So as to read Tomo’s blog, I tried my very best to learn how to use a mobile phone. I have also teared many times after reading those warm messages left by fans. With this occasion, please allow me to express my thanks to everyone. From now on, I wish that everyone can continue to support Tomo, yoroshiku onegaishimasu.

Even though it gets lonely sometimes not being able to see Tomo often, but to still see you full of energy and being active in your work makes me happy more than anything else. Take care of your health, do not forget a grateful heart, and go ahead and make this 21st year a best one!

Acchan’s Graduation

 

Has everyone recovered from the shock that the face and ace of AKB48 is actually graduating? The past 3 days of concert at Saitama has brought us a lot of shocks and surprises, though nothing surpasses yesterday’s shocking announcement by Acchan. No doubt I expected some graduation announcement, but Acchan was definitely out of my expectation. I am not an Acchan oshi but being a fan of the group, her future absences has huge impacts on the group; it’s only know that she is graduating that I truly appreciate her presence in the group and I know I will sorely miss her when she officially disappears from AKB activities and releases.

And if we as fans are starting to miss her already, I cannot start to imagine Tomochin and other 1st gen members who have been her friend, her comrade and her family right from the beginning.

I believe Acchan will graduate with a blast at Tokyo Dome, but I fear that she will not be the only top girl who will be leaving the group on that day. And as much as I do not want to start thinking about Tomochin’s graduation, I think it is becoming closer and more real with Acchan’s announcement.

Tomochin Falls Sick

As mentioned in the previous post, tomochin was already feeling unwell before making her way to Shanghai. Apparently she did not get better in time for AKB48’s handshake event on the 3rd of March and had to miss it entirely. An announcement was made on AKB’s official blog on the morning itself that she will not be taking part in both the event and the handshake sessions.

 

I hope tomochin spent her day resting really well and make a speedy recovery!!!

 

*I am sorry about slower updates recently, just started my new job and I am still trying to adapt to this new hectic lifestyle. X_X

New HP CM

Although tomochin did not appear in the HP Support Angels CM last year, she is recently selected as 1 of the 5 members of AKB48 to star in the new HP CM. The five members involved are Tomochin, Acchan, Mariko-sama, KojiHaru and 13th gen research student Mitumune Kaoru, whom you may remember as the only 13th gen research student who performed in last year’s AKB48 Kouhaku event.

I must say I was pretty surprised myself to see this new girl getting so much push before she even made it to a official member but I do not deny that it is a good tactic to generate interest and discussion since AKB is pretty much involved in every single product endorsement that people may not take so much notice in this new series of endorsement of HP laptops.

Tomochin Arrives in Shanghai

Tomochin, Yui and Ume-chan arrived in Shanghai this early afternoon for the 元気な日本 campaign which AKB48 are acting as supporters. A lot of Chinese fans have been planning for her arrival and even printed huge banners and new fan club T-shirts to welcome her. As no flight information was disclosed, many of the Chinese fans started waiting since the night before (until the twitter picture showing the three girls having dinner confirmed that they are not going to arrive in the night). Also, the fans were also unsure if the girls were actually departing from Tokyo, and that greatly increased the number of flight arrivals possible. In the end, the turnout at Pudong Airport was small because majority of the fans were camping for a different flight at Shanghai’s other airport, Hongqiao Airport.

After the news that tomochin and the other girls have arrived at Pudong Airport, all the remaining fans rushed to the venue where the performance was to be held and below are some photos taken by the various fans.

According to tomochin’s Google+/twitter, she has been feeling unwell even before the handshake event yesterday. After commenting that she was feeling uncomfortably warm and non-stop sneezes, fans and members and even Aki-P alike, commented on her posts and told her to take care of her health and rest more. Chinese fans were super worried that she was not going to make it for the Shanghai trip at the last minute but luckily all things went well; our dear girl even managed to sustain throughout the handshake event which is definitely not an easy feat.

More fan reports will come up soon and I hope to share more about her trip and the fans’ impressions soon.

Tomochin Goes to China

It is official; tomochin will finally be making her first trip to meet her China fans as part of the Genki Japan campaign mentioned previously. There will be 3 stops in total, namely Beijing, Shanghai followed by Hong Kong. Tomochin, Ume-chan and Yui will be going to Shanghai for a special performance and a meet & greet session. It will be the first time tomochin gets to meet her huge chinese fanbase and I am feeling excited for this whole event already.

Due to the large number of people who wants to meet the girls, the organisers have set up a lucky draw system for the event. Results were announced earlier today via email and at the moment, there is a lot of activity over on the Chinese forums on exchanging of tickets for preferred time slot out of the 2. Let’s all hope that the security and reception will be awesome for the girls and that they will have a safe and memorable trip!

Third Single!

If you have been following Aki-P’s Google+ account closely (which I highly recommend you to, for translated post add here), since his first surprise find of a nice tune for tomochin’s new single, he has finally say that he is starting to write the lyrics for it. And his update this afternoon went:

I listened to the sound source of Itano’s recording , and since the falsetto was beautiful ,
I want a song that is made use of high notes .

This is a trivia .

I must say that I am both excited and worried for tomochin at the same time. I will loveee to hear beautiful falsettos from tomochin but then again I fear it will pressurize her so much during live performances in music programmes when she start promoting her single. And unofficial sources revealed that the new single will be released on the 25th of April, 2 months from now. Be ready for any changes since it is yet announced on any official channels though.

Give Me Five!

AKB48’s 25th single, Give Me Five!, has officially gone on racks and sold over a million. I think we are looking at 1.2m at the end of their first week which is totally awesome though they did not crack the million mark on their first day, something which we have probably gotten used to seeing in 2011. The girls have gone on to various music programs such as Music Station and Happy Music to promote their latest single and as what most of the fans have hoped, they performed as a band in all these promotional performances.

I did not highlight this single much on tomoland because I think most of you would have gotten relevant information regarding the single from all other AKB sources and for some extras, I am here to share some 25th single tomochin related stuff only~

For a start, this awesome picture of tomochin that comes along in theatre editions:

A few gifs I found randomly on weibo and Baidu, all featuring tomochin (along with mariko-sama) during their band performances. Being not involved in any of the key instruments, I am thankful that tomochin still had reasonable screentime during performances lol, or else that would have made me so sad.

         

My favourite is the second one, i think the 2 girls are trying to play some transparent guitar over there XD.

For some random member ai, tomochin twitted that she changed her hairstyle for Music Station into something more girly, to which mariko-sama responded that “rather than it being girly, it’s sexy, Itano-san”. I have decided to have a Member Ai post II soon, the interactions between tomochin and mariko-sama are so silly sometimes that I just want to share. =P
